Background: Coxiella burnetii (C. burnetii) is a Gram-negative, obligate intracellular, zoonotic bacterial pathogen, which is the causative agent of Q fever (Coxiellosis). The disease is spread through inhalation of a spore-like cell variant or close contact with body fluids or products from contaminated animals. Cattle, sheep and goats represent the main animal reservoir. Seropositivity of ruminants for C. burnetti is associated with abortion, stillbirth and fertility problems. The high resistance to standard disinfectants and environmental influences renders disease control difficult. Antibiotic treatment and vaccination against Q fever is available.

Description: BactoReal® Kit Coxiella burnetii is based on the amplification and detection of the IS1111 of C. burnetii using real-time PCR.

PCR-platforms: BactoReal® Kit Coxiella burnetii is developed and validated for the ABI PRISM® 7500 instrument (Life Technologies), LightCycler® 480 (Roche) and Mx3005P® QPCR System (Agilent), but is also suitable for other real-time PCR instruments.

Sensitivity and specificity: See product description

Also available as assay only: BactoReal® Coxiella burnetii

ViroReal®, BactoReal® and ParoReal Kits run with the same cycling conditions.

RNA and DNA material can be analysed in one PCR run.
