Background: Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is a beta coronavirus causing Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), a zoonotic and severe respiratory disease in humans. To date, MERS-CoV has only been isolated from dromedary camels and humans. In humans, it was first identified in April 2012. Camels are a likely primary source of the MERS-CoV infection in humans.

ViroReal® MERS-CoV is a detection assay for rapid and sensitive detection of RNA of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) by reverse transcription real-time PCR.
