Background: Cytomegaly is a worldwide disease caused by the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), also called human herpesvirus type 5 (HHV-5). HCMV is a double-stranded DNA virus transmissed by droplet and smear infection, breast feeding, blood components containing cells, as well as by stem cell- and organ transplantation. After infection HCMV persists in blood or the infected organs lifetime. Up to 80% of the healthy population are carriers of HCMV. For healthy adults HCMV infection is commonly asymptomatic or subclinical, while for persons with a weak immune system infection can lead to severe clinical pictures. Also, HCMV infection is the most common congenital viral infection and may be acquired prenatally or perinatally. For fetuses and newborns HCMV can cause life-threatening infections with possible long-term consequences.
Description: ViroReal® CMV is based on the amplification and detection of the DNA polymerase accessory protein (UL44) gene of the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) using real-time PCR. ViroReal® CMV contains primers and probes for testing up to 50 samples. Furthermore, it contains a positive control sample for HCMV and a manual. The amplification mix is not included.
- Amplification and detection: UL44 of CMV
- Real-time PCR with primers, probes and postitve control
- PCR- platforms: runs on all established standard real-time PCR- platforms
PCR platforms: ViroReal® CMV is developed and validated for the Applied Biosystems® 7500 System (Thermo Fisher Scientific), LightCycler® 480 (Roche) and Mx3005P® QPCR System (Agilent), but is also suitable for other real-time PCR instruments.
